It's time to bring you up-to-date on all the happenings
at the Park & Museum. Have you seen or heard about the restoration
of the 1929 Fire Truck? Thanks to volunteers and contributors such as
you, we were able to restore the truck. It is now bright red, highly
polished and operational. It will make its public debut at the September
9th Fall Festival Parade. Max Bradford is to be commended for the excellent
restoration and he will be the driver in the parade. You will not want
to miss the Parade, as this showpiece will amaze you. Of course, the
Parade kicks off the annual Fall Festival Activities and wets our appetite
for the Hopkins County Stew. Be sure and stop by our Stew Pot and enjoy
the stew and campsite sponsored by the Historical Society.
Much work has been in progress at the Park in spite of
the tremendous heat. Keeping the Buildings and Grounds maintained is
a major undertaking and we thank you for volunteering to assist when
you can. When you visit the Park, note the recent changes. A concrete
slab has been poured to place all our antique farm equipment on. Looks
great and we thank Verdon Graves for his special work effort. Furniture
donated by Dr. Longino is now in place in the Doctor and Dental office
at the Park. Plans are underway for a building to house the restored
fire truck. Contributions are needed to help fund the building. If you
wish to donate directly to the Fire Truck fund, just place that note
on your check or envelop and we will see that it goes to that project.
If you are especially interested in a particular building or project
and wish to donate money to that project just so note it on your contribution.
Have you noticed the Band Stand & Gazebo at the Park along with
the improved walkway? The area now accommodates our performers needs
and gives the audience a good view of all the activities. You will want
to join us on Indian Summer Day, October 7, 2006 from 9:00am to 4:00
PM. Native American Dancers, Civil War Enactors, and wonderful musical
groups will be there to entertain you, and of course, the archeology
dig pit, tin punch, candle dipping and such for the youngsters. Interpreters
in period dress will demonstrate butter churning, soap making, blacksmithing
and the gristmill operation. . Quilts will also be on display. If this
doesn't entice you, the Dutch oven cooking will and you can enjoy the
cooked meals by purchasing a set up for all the good food. Of course,
drinks and other foods may be purchased from the food tent. Admission
is $2.00. Children under 12 are free. Be sure and join us at the Park
and bring along all your friends. Your support is appreciated.
